Spring it On

February 23, 2017 by Katie Anderson Leave a Comment

This week here in Wisconsin was one for the record books. The weather has been unusually warmer than any other February I can honestly ever remember in my lifetime! Its been a welcomed stretch of about 5 days of temperatures in the 60’s…yesterday even topping a high of 67 degrees! (Our typical highs this time of year barely get above 20!)

Needless to say, this spring-like weather quite literally propelled us into the next season! Unfortunately, I don’t think this streak will be extended too much longer, but it was certainly nice while it lasted. We’ll have to wait until the “real spring” arrives in a few more months to continue to enjoy it.

Boy, it was sure nice to turn off the heat in our house, open a few windows for some fresh air and walk around outside without 12 layers on! Even some of our lilies and bulbs started peeking through while the warm sunshine coaxed them out of their winter slumber.

The kids enjoyed going on a few bike rides, blowing bubbles and creating some sidewalk chalk art.

I took full advantage of the warmth and transitioned our front porch out into something a bit more “spring-y.” All that’s missing are some colorful daffodils and bunches of potted tulips, but we’ll have to wait a few more months for those.

I just about did a happy dance in the aisle at my local Walmart when I spotted this cool galvanized windmill in their seasonal section for less than $10. I’ve been thinking about getting an 8 ft. ornamental version of one of these for our backyard this summer. I really love the farmhouse feel they give to a property.

Speaking of cool farmhouse feel, I have been working like a madwoman prepping for my first big marketplace expo event next month. I own an online shop – it’s attached to this blog – called the Have a Little Faith Shop, where I create & sell re-purposed items, along with some handmade and vintage pieces mixed in. I am really excited for this event since it’s a great opportunity to allow people to see our items in person, not just online. Myself and the 3 other women that help contribute to the shop, have been busily creating some new pieces to sell at the booth. Be sure to check out my Facebook page for more info if you’re interested in attending the event on March 18th. I’d love to meet you and see you there!

All this warm weather also got us thinking again about spring break. We were thrilled to discover that the home we rented last March for our spring break road trip to Florida, was open for 1 week in April. Every other week from now until June was booked solid. Talk about timing! We snatched it up and are excited to return again along with some of our other family members to this incredible vacation spot in warmer weather.

Even though the temperatures are going to return down to the 30’s this weekend, we can at least be thankful for the little bit of “spring-it-on” weather we had this week. It was God’s way of giving us a little blessing in the middle of a long, cold winter.

How is the weather where you live? Are the temperatures getting warmer a little each day? Or is the snow still piling up outside your window? Either way, at least we know spring is not far off!
