I’m smack dab in the middle of what I would call a busy season in my life. Juggling the schedule of a SAHM of 3 kids is only one facet of my life right now. I’m also a blogger and shop owner. A volunteer librarian. A worship singer. And helping upstart a new women’s ministry.
All good, good things. But also things that force me to function one day at a time, relying solely on He who gives me strength. Because honestly, without this mentality, my life would be utter chaos.
I’m reading a really good book right now, along with a matching bible study, called Uninvited by Lysa TerKeurst. In it she points out that, “Jesus doesn’t participate in the rat race. He’s into slower rhythms of life, like abiding, delighting, and dwelling – all words that require us to trust Him with our place and our pace.”
I love this line for so many reasons, but mainly because that’s the kind of person I want to be. That’s the kind of life I want to live.
So when I finally got around to pulling all my summer decor down and digging out the totes for fall, I started to consider how I could bring that vibe into my home this season.
Casual. Simple. Unhurried.
The kind of place that makes you want to sit and stay awhile. Our family room is just that. It’s definitely one of the most well-used and loved places to hang out in our home.
It was my goal to bring casual elements into the decor in this space. Our mantle is always the first place I start.
I had found a few rustic looking pumpkins in the Dollar Spot at Target, and mixed them in with a collection of other familiar items from around the house.
The picture is actually up-cycled from an old LANG wall calendar, and the frame is one I’ve had lying around that was just the right fit.
I do this a lot, especially with old Christmas cards, since I think the artwork is sometimes so pretty, it’s a shame to just toss them out each year.
Some familiar fabric pumpkins also found their way back into this space. A few from last year’s fall home tour. And a few new ones that I made for a recent craft show out of an old vintage bedspread.
I made a cover for our bolster pillow to match.
The buffalo check pillow covers I found on Amazon.
And who doesn’t love a warm welcome when they walk into a room?
Lately our diffuser has been misting all kinds of great fall scents. My favorites this time of year are the Sunshine Spice and the Harmony blends from Edens Garden.
I’m not an affiliate for their brand, but I love their essential oils and do use them in our home quite frequently.
I set out for casual fall, and I couldn’t feel more at home in this space. These days I’m all about the simple small pleasures in life.
A spot on the couch snuggled up with my kiddos and a movie.
A crisp autumn walk before the day has really even begun.
A quiet rainy afternoon with my bible and a steaming hot cup of tea.
After all, those are the only things that really matter.

I’ll be right over!!!!! I could use some movie time, snuggled up with my awesome grand kids or some Bible time with a nice cup of tea! Really, taking time for these things is the most important time spent! Time together with our Loved Ones!!
It looks beautiful, Katie!

I love this, Katie. I read Lysa Terkeurst book on The Best Yes, but I haven’t read the one you referred to here. It sounds good though. I loved that paragraph about Jesus isn’t into the ratrace. Love that. I think we might be neighbors. I am in Dousman!

Awww, thank you Amy! Yes, we certainly are pretty close neighbors, as we are just outside of Oconomowoc. 🙂 Thanks for reading the blog, keep the faith!
