Rainy days, warm apple cider, crackling campfires, pumpkins and hayrides….ahhhh. Yep, park me here in the season of fall and I’m a happy lady. Fall is as sweet as it comes when I’m concerned, and I’m not just talking about all the candy we consume this month either.
I love the way that nature shows off this time of the year, and was fortunate enough to see some really beautiful tree colors on a trip we took up north to Minnesota last weekend for a family wedding.
Although we do get pretty fall colors here in the Midwest, it’s always been a bucket list item of mine to travel to Maine and Vermont this time of year and experience some really amazing leaf peeping. The fall foliage there is just unmatched to anything we get to see here. So hopefully one year soon, I’ll be able to make that dream a reality.
I brought the colors of fall nature into our family room for the season, with bursts of orange, yellow and red popping through our neutral decor.
Faux leaves and pumpkins also help add some festive vibes.
The bigger news with our family room recently is that we got a new couch…finally!
I had my eye on a couch from Ikea to replace our old saggy loveseat and couch set, but it had literally been out of stock for over 6 months. I had all but given up hope that it would ever be back in stock, but low and behold, one day I just happened to look online and it was back in stock! I quickly snagged it up in my cart and checked out online, super excited and completely baffled that I had stumbled upon such good random luck. It was delivered right away and the amount of boxes alone for putting it all together were pretty intimidating. It took me, my husband and my oldest daughter about 5 hours to put it all together. But…it was worth it.
We went with the HARLANDA 4 seat sectional in Sporda natural. What I love the most about this particular couch, is that it’s slip-covered, which means I can take the covers off the cushions and pillows to wash anytime they are getting too grimy. So important with pets and children who spill things! Plus, if I ever wanted to get a second slipcover in a different color, I could to change things up.
It’s also got a chaise lounge at the end which lifts up and has hidden storage underneath. Pretty awesome for tucking away board games, puzzles, blankets and anything else we want out of sight, but within easy reach.
Speaking of blankets, I couldn’t resist picking up this Peanuts inspired fall blanket at Marshall’s recently. It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown is pretty much my favorite fall movie, so it seemed only appropriate to come home with me.
It’s been great to cozy up here and watch a movie together as a family with a big bowl of popcorn and trust me, the comfort level is high up there. I think I’ve fallen asleep on it more times than I can count.
We also moved some things around again in this space by bringing our electric fireplace back into the room for the holidays. Santa needs somewhere to visit after all…t minus 78 days and counting until Christmas is here!
The television was relocated to the top of the fireplace, which I thought I’d hate, but surprisingly, I don’t seem to mind. And our piano also rolled it’s way back on into the room for added coziness and a space for my daughter to play her favorites around the holidays.
This time of year we are spending more and more time at home, and I think it’s so important to add elements of coziness to the spaces you spend a lot of time in. I love setting up a puzzle at the kitchen table for us to peck away at, having a good smelling candle lit, adding a bunch of gushy pillows on the couch to snuggle…those types of things really make our home feel more like haven, an escape from the outside stressors of the world.
I’m excited to be sharing some more fall themed posts with you throughout the rest of this season. Maybe even a recipe or two, in addition to some more decor ideas. So, stay tuned! Happy Fall!
