I recently finished up a project for a friend which I couldn’t wait to share here on Have a Little Faith. This sweet little pink vanity project didn’t start out so sweet….more like a stinky ol’ brown! But when I spotted it out rummaging at the end of this fall, I knew it had the potential to be an adorable addition to any little girl’s room.
A friend had asked me to keep my eye out for a vanity that could be refinished for her girls’ bedroom, where they could sit and do their hair. I was elated to find this set at a rummage sale for a steal of a deal at only $30 for both the stool and the vanity.
Especially since it had so many cute features including a pull out drawer for storage, photo holders, a mirror and hidden compartment for jewelry behind it.
The wood on the vanity was still in good condition and I knew the stool could easily be recovered. So off it came home with me, awaiting its transformation!
I chose a light pink paint with primer mixed in for the new color. A couple of good solid coats and it already looked a whole lot better! I finished it off with a smooth coat of furniture wax and a little buffing.
Then came the fun part, choosing a fabric to recover the stool. After snapping a few photos at the fabric store, and sending them to my friend, she ended up picking a really cute gray floral print. Between the paint and the fabric, it came to around $25.
In order to recover the stool, I simply unscrewed the cushion from the base and laid out a square of fabric that I measured to be big enough to wrap around the cushion and be stapled underneath.
And that’s just what I did next, pulled the fabric tight and stapled all the way around the circle.
I cut some additional fabric rectangles out to add to the picture frame holder spots and tie in with the fabric on the stool.
And just like that, from old to new, this little vanity was transformed into a pink dream!
I can just imagine how much fun my friend’s sweet girls will have sitting here, braiding hair, trying on dress up jewelry and putting on lip gloss!
I hope it will bring as much joy to them as it was for me creating it! You never know what great things you’ll find at a rummage sale and the potential they have to be transformed into something new again.
