I think it’s safe to say, spring has sprung ’round these parts. I even saw a robin in my backyard this week which is definitely a sure sign of springtime! A few weeks ago, I couldn’t take anymore of the cold and snow…down came the winter decorations I had enjoyed in my home so much after Christmas, and up came the springtime & Easter decorations! With the fresh look of the house, it puts me in a really great mood to know that springtime is fast approaching. With Easter only 3 weeks away, today I thought I’d share some tips on how I enjoy decorating this time of year in my home.<\/p>\n

\"Easter<\/a><\/p>\n

Starting around this time of year I like to bring the outdoors into my home, any way possible. In May when the lilacs bloom, I love a full vase of their fragrant purple blooms. When it’s summertime, I always have a big bouquet of fresh-cut garden flowers in the house. During the rest of the year, I am stuck with the artificial thing, but you can still find some really great “fake” versions out there in stores these days. Like this sprig of yellow forsythia. Paired with this tin watering can, I automatically think springtime! I have a wreath sporting this same springtime flower hanging on my front door.<\/p>\n

\"Easter<\/a><\/p>\n

These funny straw & burlap bunnies were a World Market find a few years back. I couldn’t resist taking them home. They remind me of little children – one is jumping rope, one is skateboarding and one is holding a pin wheel. They are too cute!<\/p>\n

Speaking of pin wheels, I love using them for springtime decor as well. Sticking one in a vase of greenery or adding it to a tin bucket filled with plastic eggs is simple and festive.<\/p>\n

I use a lot of ceramic pieces in decorating that my mother used to make and sell. When I was a kid, she owned her own ceramics business, and taught pottery and painting classes in the basement of our old home growing up. I love looking at these sweet bunnies & chicks year after year. They remind me of my childhood.<\/p>\n

Adding some vintage cookie cutters can bring springtime cheer to the kitchen, along with these ceramic bunny & chick salt and pepper shakers.<\/p>\n

My rearranging disease is flaring up again. I recently added this tall ladder bookshelf in my living room to replace the smaller wooden shelves that used to sit here. They are now serving a better purpose in our lower level family room that I am currently trying to give a bit of a design revamp. I think my favorite thing in the world to style is a big ‘ol bookcase. There’s a lot you can do with those 5 shelves!<\/p>\n

\"Ladder<\/a><\/p>\n

Who’d think to actually put books on a bookcase, right? These are some of our favorites. I have been reading my kids the Little House on the Prairie series. We are taking our time through each book, to really appreciate the tenacity of each character and the hardships they endured. I’m always so inspired by the pioneer spirit embodied in these stories. I think I am stuck in the wrong time period. I would have loved living back in the 1800’s. Life was a whole lot simpler then, but harder too, in many ways. The Ingalls family would probably say they wished they had all the modern things we have today – like running water and electricity to name a few – so I guess it’s all relative!<\/p>\n

\"Little<\/a><\/p>\n

Changing out pillow covers can also bring some new life to your home’s decor. Here you can see I’ve changed things up again, this time in an array of blues. You can have fun playing with different textures and prints when mixing and matching pillows – it helps keep things interesting. In fact, I am planning a fabulous “no sew” pillow tutorial for a future post, so be sure to stay tuned for how to create your own pillow cover soon!<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"Spring<\/a><\/p>\n

Isn’t this little egg tree cute? I found it at Target in the Dollar Spot last year. They may have something similar to it this year, but I haven’t had any luck making it out there yet to check out their seasonal offerings. They do tend to often repeat popular items from previous years, and lately they have been coming out with so many cute new decor options for $5 or less.<\/p>\n

\"Egg<\/a><\/p>\n

When you think Easter, you most definitely think eggs. This particular dozen eggs is my favorite Easter decoration. They are called Resurrection Eggs and one of my kids made them in preschool several years ago. They are so easy to create. All you need is an old egg carton, 12 colored plastic eggs and small items that can fit inside each one and help you tell the biblical story of Easter. Each number correlates to the scripture that breaks down the events leading up to Jesus’ betrayal, sentencing, death on the cross and resurrection from the tomb. For example, inside egg #5 is a piece of a rose stem to symbolize the crown of thorns that was placed on Jesus’ head. Inside egg #9 is a scrap of black cloth to symbolize how the sky turned black upon His death and egg #12 is, of course, empty because He had risen from the tomb! My kids really enjoy sitting down with this carton on their lap and peeking inside each egg while reading through each step. What a great reminder for children to know the true reason we celebrate Easter has nothing to do with a white rabbit who hides eggs and brings baskets of candy. Although truth be told, we do celebrate both the religious element along with the Easter bunny. It’s a tradition both my hubby and I grew up with and we want our kids to have those same fond memories from their childhood. The Easter bunny likes to hide not only eggs around our house, but also our baskets. We have found them in some pretty interesting places as a result!<\/p>\n
