Happy 2016! We’re only a week into the new year and already it feels like I am scrambling\u00a0with trying to pack away Christmas decorations, clean the house, catch up on laundry, and get into the swing of our routine again now that the kids are back in school and our winter break is over. I’m not really one to make a lot of new year’s resolutions, but if I had to choose one for 2016, it would definitely be to procrastinate less!<\/p>\n

I enjoyed celebrating the New Year with my husband in a little weekend getaway. New Year’s Day also happens to be our wedding anniversary; this year we hit the 11 year milestone. We had planned on doing something special last year for our 10th, and then after some major household appliances bailed on us unexpectedly, we had to unfortunately postpone our plans, and so this year we were more than eager to escape away for a kid-free romantic weekend!<\/p>\n

I have a real love for Victorian style B & B’s. I worked for one all through high school and college as a housekeeper & an inn sitter and it’s always been a dream of mine to someday maybe even own one of my own. When my husband & I got married 11 years ago in the dead of winter, you’d think we’d have picked somewhere really warm and tropical to honeymoon in right? Nope. Instead we chose a truly beautiful Victorian bed & breakfast, the White Lace Inn<\/a>, even further north in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin to stay for a whole week. It was cold, snowy and perfectly romantic for us.<\/p>\n

In previous years for our anniversary we have gone back a few times to this location and always loved it, but this year we wanted to stay somewhere local and not make such a long drive. I did some searching online and found a quaint little Victorian B & B near to us that looked just perfect. It is called the Pedal’rs Inn<\/a> in Wales, Wisconsin.<\/p>\n

The house was very charming. You could really tell that the innkeepers have done a great job in restoring and maintaining so much of the character that these older Victorian homes have to offer. I enjoyed all\u00a0the vintage details.<\/p>\n

This was the door to our room that actually opened & locked with an old skeleton key! So neat!<\/p>\n

An organ and Victrola for playing records were also featured on the main level common area for guests to enjoy.<\/p>\n

A vintage style doorbell. You turned a handle on the opposite side of the door to operate. I wonder if dogs back then still barked as loudly at them ringing as ours does today? #whydotheyputdoorbellcommercialsontv #mutebuttonfordog<\/p>\n

The staircase leading up to the guest rooms was beautiful, ornate woodworking. No sliding down those banisters allowed!<\/p>\n

And I loved the fact that the innkeepers are Christians and\u00a0sharing some of their faith with their guests. They even prayed with us before breakfast which was so great.<\/p>\n

I didn’t bring my phone down with me to breakfast to take pictures, but wow, were we treated to a feast! Brad & I were served a 4-course breakfast, including raspberry sorbet, cinnamon honeydew melon chilled soup, egg souffl\u00e9 with roasted sweet potatoes, and a chocolate brownie with an armarato drizzle on top for dessert. Yes, please! I wish I could eat like that every morning!<\/p>\n

It was a long overdue, very relaxing weekend getaway that my hubby and I thoughourly enjoyed. It was hard for us to believe that we were celebrating 11 years of marriage, and 15 years together as a couple. We were just “babies” when we were married at 22…<\/p>\n

And here we are today, still keeping our covenant strong. Marriage certainly is not an easy road. But just as the duet’s lyrics we sang together on our wedding day say, “From this moment, as long as I live, I will love you…”<\/p>\n
