It seems unbelievable to me that our oldest daughter just celebrated her 13th birthday a few months ago. It’s true what they say when it comes to parenting, don’t blink! They really do grow up fast.<\/p>\n

As promised, I’m sharing some of the details to the simple county fair party we threw for her.<\/p>\n

With this being such a strange year, we knew we’d have to get creative in our birthday celebration.<\/p>\n

Luckily, by keeping our gathering small and outdoors, we were able to achieve a fun day at the fair for our newly crowned teen. And with no actual county fairs being held this summer due to covid, the theme for this party seemed like a great fit to get our sought after fair fix.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

We celebrated with classic fair foods like corn dogs, soft pretzels, farm fresh veggies and fruit. Plus some peach sweet tea and lemonade.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

I’m not sure who enjoyed it more, the humans or the bees! (Hence all the netting!)<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

And of course, all kinds of fair treats.<\/p>\n

Cotton candy, mini pies and cream puffs to name a few! We had a mini pie eating contest that my husband pretty much dominated. Polishing off his pie in 30 seconds flat.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

We were blessed with a beautiful day to spend outside in a small family gathering, spread out in our backyard, keeping everyone socially distanced.<\/p>\n

Do you spy the cute little square barn quilt on the side of our red shed?<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

I made it over the summer and had fully intended on blogging about the process, but then, well…life. And covid. And that’s the extent of the barn quilt blog post! Who, knows maybe that tutorial will pop up here on the blog eventually one day.<\/p>\n

The birthday girl herself even got crowed “Fairest of the Fair”, compliments of her creative Auntie.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

And one more very special treat was gifted to her as well…<\/p>\n

Goats!<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

This girl really loves those cute little farm critters, and my brother and sister in law were able to wrangle up a few as surprise guests to the party.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

We all had a blast feeding them animal crackers and watching them jump and play all over the backyard.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Sadly, they couldn’t stay as pets, but who knows, maybe someday when we get our own little farm, we’ll be able to get a few of them ourselves. They are super fun & entertaining animals to have around!<\/p>\n

Our backyard county fair party couldn’t have been more simplistic and down home, but it was just the right fit for this year’s birthday celebration. A very memorable milestone for our family, as we look ahead to the next stage of parenting, moving into the teen years.<\/p>\n

Lord help me one that one. There are some days I think I’d rather take a toddler’s tantrum any day over a hormonal teenager. But, thankfully, I’ve got His guidance to get me through!<\/p>\n
