Wow, I can hardly believe how fast Christmas is already upon us! With the Thanksgiving holiday so late last month, it really did sneak up and here we are almost a week away from the big day.<\/p>\n

I pray that you are finding some time to stop and savor the season. This year it has definitely been a challenge with both me and my husband working in retail – a whole new level of craziness at the holidays – and the kids in their many activities: school play, sports, music, etc.<\/p>\n

We’ve been trying really hard to take advantage of even the smallest windows of opportunity to just be together and enjoy some down time this Christmas season. Whether it’s a 10 minute scripture devotional after dinner, a movie night with hot cocoa, or even driving around for a bit looking at lights in the car, family time is what you make it. Think quality<\/em>, not quantity.<\/p>\n

I’ve also felt the crunch in getting the house decked out and ready for Christmas. This time of year is my favorite for decorating. I love popping the house with all sorts of red & green.<\/p>\n

I thought I would share some of the highlights of the house before it’s too late and I have to pack it all away until next year.<\/p>\n

So, come with me on a little mini tour throughout my Christmas house!<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Let’s start in the Kitchen & Dining Room.<\/p>\n

These built in kitchen shelves are always fun to change up for the season. I went with a simple baking theme this year. The vintage spice tins with bottle brush trees on top I made last year – super simple & add a touch of nostalgia.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

I’m still not over the buffalo plaid craze that has been taking the design world by storm lately. I welcomed it back into my holiday decor this year ’cause I love me some red and black checks!<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

I couldn’t help myself when I spotted these paper straws at Walmart in…buffalo check!<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Along with these cute little fabric trees that were also found at…you guessed it…Walmart!<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

I’ve been surprised how Walmart has really stepped up their game this year and a lot of their holiday decor, plus regular decor too, is really on trend and quite affordable.<\/p>\n

Do ya’ll have “fancy” Christmas plates?<\/p>\n

I have never owned any myself, but I found some farmhouse-inspired melamine red-rimmed plates at Target on Black Friday for only $2\/each. They fit so nicely in this vintage plate holder I got while out picking at an estate sale a few years back.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

The smaller “Joy” and “Noel” dessert plates are also plastic and from Target several years ago. And the best part is I don’t have to worry about breaking them because they aren’t fine china!<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

We spend a lot of time in our “new” dining room, so we also set up a fun little Hot Chocolate bar complete with marshmallows and peppermint candy bits.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

It has gotten pretty good use already this month and will continue to throughout the winter no doubt.<\/p>\n

Moving on to the Family Room.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Of course, the center of this space is the Christmas tree.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

I really simplified the rest of the decor, just using some artificial greens and berry sprays.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Plus the pillow covers were changed up for the season — the Merry & Bright pillow was a steal at Aldi this year for only $6!<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Wrapping around to the entryway of our home, I dressed up the bench with some more festive holiday pillows and this adorable red mitten garland.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

The snowy red berry wreath was found at an antique store a few years back.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

But currently this is about the only snow covering anything around here, as all of our real stuff has melted. Will we end up with a white Christmas after all? Only a few more days will tell.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

There’s one last space I’m hoping to share with you this holiday season, and that is our master bedroom. However, I’m afraid it will have to wait for another post, since I’d like to talk a little bit more about why I decorate that space extra special this time of year…watch for that one to appear around New Year’s!<\/p>\n
