Hey there my long-lost blogging buddies!<\/p>\n

Between the hit of the polar vortex here in Wisconsin and getting slammed with some of the worst flu germs our family’s seen in a while, I can gladly say that I’m still here and survived to tell the tale!<\/p>\n

We’ve had a total of 5…<\/p>\n

Count them…<\/p>\n

FIVE…<\/p>\n

Snow days home from school over the last 3 weeks.<\/p>\n

And among myself, husband and kids, we’ve had about equal amounts of sick days in bed with a case of influenza that, despite my best efforts to keep at bay, ended up running through all of us.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

I think I’ve had enough sick germs and cold weather days now to seriously contemplate a move down south.<\/p>\n

Mississippi sounding good to anybody else?<\/p>\n

All kidding aside, before the crazy cold temperatures and viruses starting spreading, we did get at least one fun day out of the whole thing.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

On our first “official” snow day, we got dumped on with about 9″ of snow overnight.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

It also happened to land on my husband’s day off that week. As luck would have it, the sun came out later and we decided to take to the fields behind our house for some good old-fashioned family sledding.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

I used to love sledding as a kid.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

We lived in a neighborhood that sat right across from a lake and all of the houses on the lake had backyards that sloped down to the water frontage.<\/p>\n

One neighbor, a sweet older couple that went by the last name ‘Cheeseman’ – yep, only in Wisconsin – let all the kids in the neighborhood use their backyard hill to sled down because it had the ultimate best slope.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

We’d all gather at the top of the hill after school and sled for hours until it was dark and time to go home for dinner, taking turns trying to see which one of us could sled so fast we’d make it out onto the ice, which waited for us at the very bottom.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

I love those sledding snow day memories of my youth.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

And I wouldn’t trade them for anything.<\/p>\n

Well…maybe for a day of sledding fun with my own kiddos…<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

And a break from getting sick anytime in the near future!<\/p>\n
