Happy Wednesday Friends!<\/p>\n

I’m over here scratching my head, trying to figure out how it could already possibly be one week away from Christmas? It seems every year it sneaks up on me faster and faster.<\/p>\n

I have tried to force myself to slow down and do a little less hustle and a little more intentional this month, which to be honest, has been pretty liberating.<\/p>\n

Our family took the time to go caroling last week at a local nursing home. While we were handing out cards and treats to the residents and singing, it was a good reminder that the holidays shouldn’t always be about ourselves. It should be about reaching out and doing good for others, especially those who are lonely or less fortunate this time of year.<\/p>\n

I even decided this year to scale back a bit on the decking of the halls in our home. I still brought in a lot of Christmas touches to our main living area and our kitchen.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

These are the two spaces in our home that we spend the most time together, so I always try to make them feel warm and inviting, like a hug from a good friend.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

One of my Christmas presents came a little early this month, with some updated lighting fixtures in our kitchen. My in-laws were visiting and decided to treat us with a gift card to our local home improvement store so we could bring this lovely new dining chandelier home.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

We also updated the light above our kitchen sink with a matching rubbed bronze open-style fixture.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

And check out the rug I found for in front of our kitchen sink. It reminds me of our dog Annie, having a blast sledding! It fits her personality perfectly!<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

A few other Christmas touches to our kitchen add to the season. I guess I kind of leaned more towards red and rustic this year. Lots of tree-related decor found its way in here.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

This is also a time to remember why we celebrate the season. The birth of a savior, an unlikely baby, who came to save the world. Jesus will always be the center of our family’s Christmas.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Above the fireplace I choose a beautiful paper wall scroll with the lyrics to “O Holy Night.”<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

I love this simple, yet important reminder of the mystery and awe of Christmas.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

It really is the most wonderful time of the year, if you can let go of the stresses and pressures of what the holiday is supposed to look like. But for many, we miss this and Christmas can leave us feeling empty.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

My prayer for you this Christmas is that you don’t lose sight of that wonder, that hope, that promise of what this holiday is truly about.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

I’m taking a few weeks off the blog over the holidays. I will catch you all in the New Year once we’ve enjoyed some quality time spent with loved ones.<\/p>\n
