One of the small projects my husband and I pecked away at over the summer was giving our laundry room a makeover.<\/p>\n

I’m going to be completely honest and just put it out there.<\/p>\n

This laundry room….<\/p>\n

it’s the bane of my existence.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

I wish I were exaggerating.<\/p>\n

Not only is it the single most hardworking room in our house, but it’s also the smallest.<\/p>\n

If I could rewind 9 years into the past when we were sitting down with the builder, designing the layout of this house, I would have told them, make that one BIG…make it HUGE…just give me ALL THE SPACE!<\/strong><\/p>\n

But alas, no time traveling machine here.<\/p>\n

So we need to be super smart with how we use its layout.<\/p>\n

It’s the first space you walk through in from the garage into our home. Coats are dropped here, shoes and boots in the winter and of course, there’s always endless piles of laundry!<\/p>\n

The builder grade wire shelves that had been in this room just weren’t functioning well for our family anymore. (Sorry for the horrid picture, just keeping it real here folks!)<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

We decided to take them down and install a wall cabinet instead for some hidden storage, along with a clothing rod extended to the edge of the wall for the clothes that need air drying.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

It was a simple, inexpensive stock cabinet, but we added some bead board to the sides and painted it white to match the wood built-ins on the opposite side of the wall. Now all of our storage is hidden and less of an eyesore.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

I moved this rustic wooden wall shelf in here over from my office and love the functionality it now gives to the entry way for hats, umbrellas and purses.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

And this wooden storage shelf from the Threshold line at Target in a matching rustic wood finish is great for storing the few cleaning products I use, along with our mircofiber cleaning clothes, brooms and mops.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Of course what mudroom would be complete without hooks? Rows and rows of them! With 3 kids, they are always filled with jackets, sweat shirts, backpacks, etc.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

The built-in shelves were custom-made by my grandfather when we first moved into our home. They got a fresh coat of paint since they were really starting to show the grime after 9 years.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

These shelves store a lot! Dog items, mittens & scarves, sunglasses, hats, lunch totes, bug spray, sunscreen, etc. They offer so much function to this tiny room.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

We also upgraded the light fixture and touched up and repainted the walls in a light color. Since there is no natural light that feeds into this space, any bit of brightness helps tremendously.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Since giving this room a makeover, it feels a little more tolerable to spend as much time in here as I typically do in a week.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

After all, why shouldn’t you enjoy the hardworking spaces just as much as the other living areas in your home?<\/p>\n
