It’s finally here! December 1st! That means the “official” countdown to Christmas has begun.<\/p>\n

While some of you may already have your trees up and the entire house decked out from top to bottom, I’m still playing a little catch up over here.<\/p>\n

We were gone traveling over Thanksgiving for 6 days, so I’m a bit behind on decking the halls. But I’ve gotten a good start this week and hope to finish up everything by the weekend.<\/p>\n

One room that is finished for the holiday season is our kitchen. And I’ve been dreaming, quite literally, of when I could share with you the recent changes we made in this space.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Like all big projects we tackle here in our household, this one has taken us a few months to complete. When you have busy jobs and 3 kids that pull you in a million different directions, you peck away at projects like this one.<\/p>\n

Back in September, we decided to finally bite the bullet and paint our kitchen cabinets white. We had been mulling over this decision for a few years and weren’t sure if we were brave enough to take it on.<\/p>\n

Before our cabinets were a builder grade reddish wood tone, but over the years were definitely starting to show their wear and tear. They aren’t “real wood” per say, so I think that helped us in finally deciding it was ok to paint them.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a> \"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

And let me tell you, it was<\/em> a large project, in fact it took us until the end of November to finally<\/em> finish them up. But a lot of cutting in and several coats of paint later…they are done! (That’s right, we did this the old-fashioned way, no paint sprayers involved!)<\/p>\n

I’m so happy with the end result. It instantly brightens up our kitchen space and we still have lots of warm tones coming in to contrast all the white through our counter tops, table and island.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

We even added some brushed nickel hardware, which may seem like no big deal, but after 8 years of living in this kitchen with no cabinet knobs or drawer pulls, believe me, it makes a big difference!<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

So, I decided the best way to show off these pretty white panels was to dress them up for Christmas.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

I made some simple faux boxwood wreaths using some garland I found here.<\/a> And then using some red checked and burlap ribbon, I secured each wreath with a little hot glue and hung them on the backs of each top cabinet door.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

This coffee corner gets a little different restyling this time of year as well, with the shelves above and some Christmas mugs being added to the side wall rack.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Does anyone else have a complete collection of assorted Christmas coffee cups like we do? I found some plaid and buffalo checked ones this year at the Dollar Spot at Target and I love them!<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

I hope to be sharing with you our Christmas fireplace mantel next week, along with a glimpse of the rest of our family room’s holiday decor.<\/p>\n
