Before I start busting out the R&B guitar and soulful lyrics, let me just say, this past week has been a rough one for me. I don’t always love talking about my personal life here on the blog, but sometimes it’s ok to let some of that yucky-ness out into the open and just get it off your chest.<\/p>\n

The sting of disappointment is never fun. This week my husband and I both had high hopes for something to work out in our favor and it just didn’t end up happening. We had fallen in love with a property out in the country which would have definitely checked off a big bucket list item for us. We have a dream<\/a> to someday buy a farm and make it our forever home. Despite our best efforts to make a solid offer on the property, it was just not in the cards and we had to walk away from the deal. Sometimes God’s timing does not line up with our own.<\/p>\n

On top of that, we were thrown a huge curve ball with unexpected repair work on my husband’s vehicle, only to find out the car’s motor is damaged beyond repair and we will need to somehow sell a salvaged car as well as purchase a new one. Ouch. Didn’t see that storm coming either.<\/p>\n

Ultimately, I know through my faith, God is always in control. Amid the storms of life, we can cling to Him and choose to trust in His greater plan. I firmly believe this, and so, even despite this storm, I’ll know things will be ok. It still hurts and I’d rather not go through it, but my wounds will eventually heal. I have much to be thankful for, even if I got the blues!<\/p>\n

But this post was really not supposed to be about all of that…it’s actually about this awesome vintage blue dresser I recently made over for our master bedroom. It was another great rummage sale find – practically a steal at only $20, and the lady even loaded it into her truck and drove it over to my house to drop it off for me! What a bargain, plus free delivery!<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

I was eager to start working on this piece, and in my hastiness, forgot to snap a proper before photo of the dresser. It was a blonde colored wood full of blemishes. I chose a denim blue color in some homemade chalk paint<\/a> to bring this sad, worn out dresser back to life.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

But I also wanted it to have some character and feel comfortable in our master bedroom space, so I distressed it lightly around all the edges until it resembled a favorite pair of worn blue jeans. I love the shabby look it now has!<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

I found a set of Threshold oil-rubbed bronze handles and knobs in the clearance section at Target marked down to $10! I would have paid almost 5 times that amount had I purchased new hardware at full price. I really lucked out on that find.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

I think they help finish off the piece rather nicely, complimenting some of the other similar features in our bedroom, like our oil-rubbed bronze bed frame, and the new fixtures we installed recently in our master bath makeover.<\/a><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

This dresser is perfect for extra clothing storage in our bedroom and I love that I was able to find such great deals on making it over affordably.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

In addition to that great find, I was also able to grab these 2 weathered wood frames marked down on clearance for $9! Seriously, sometimes the clearance gods are good to me!<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

I will be sharing a bit more about the artwork I created that went into these frames next week on the blog, as well as a few other summer bedroom changes we’ve made to freshen up the space.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Thanks for listening to my sad-I-got-the-blues-story today. I know in the grand scheme of things going on in our world today that are far worse, this is only a drop in the bucket. But it helps to let those tears flow sometimes to move on with our lives.<\/p>\n
