Somebody please tell me how we got to the end of this week already?! I don’t know about you, but time has literally been flying by over here. Probably has something to do with the fact that I have been busier than a squirrel gathering acorns in the fall!<\/p>\n

It was my son’s 5th birthday this week and we threw him a big family party, along with a preschool kid one to follow over the weekend. I have literally been knee-deep in dinosaur-themed everything! Details from those fun parties will be coming soon, so stay tuned.<\/p>\n

But back to fall….seriously, can you believe it’s October? This week I wanted to share with you some ideas for decorating your front porch & entryway for fall. I always enjoy re-styling these areas of my home each season. After all, these are the first spots that people encounter when visiting your home and it’s important to make them feel welcome!<\/p>\n

The front porch of our home is rather small – unfortunately not quite big enough for sitting out on a swing enjoying the evening sunset – but it’s just the right size for a few items that are still\u00a0welcoming.<\/p>\n

I own a few different vintage wooden chairs – which I’ve collected over the years – that I like to swap out in this space.<\/p>\n

I found these cute red apple baskets at Goodwill for $1 a piece! Place a pretty $3 mum plant from Aldi inside and it’s an adorable fall decoration for less than $5. These faux fall leaves are from the Dollar Store & really help add some character, especially to our neighborhood which lacks the more mature trees that actually show such pretty colors this time of year.<\/p>\n

I added a red lantern & some gourd pumpkins – also from Aldi’s produce section – and an old washtub flipped upside down to help add some dimension to this area. The Indian corn & mini hay bale are both items I have had for a while now and I just try to find ways new ways to reuse them each year.<\/p>\n

I have to be really careful what type of items I set out here since we live in a part of the country that can get really windy! Our house sits at the bottom of a valley and so on really blustery days it acts like a wind tunnel sucking stuff off my front porch steps. I’ve had to go chasing after things down the street on more than one occasion!<\/p>\n

It will probably be a couple more weeks until we add some big orange pumpkins to this space. We typically get some for the kids to carve a silly jack-o-lantern face in the week leading up to Halloween.<\/p>\n

And hopefully these pretty garden mums that come back every year, will stick around a while longer and keep blooming their vibrant fall colors.<\/p>\n

Now that I’ve shown you the front porch outside, it’s time to go inside and take a look at the entryway. Don’t worry, Annie may bark ferociously, but under all that scruffy black fur, she’s really got a heart of gold!<\/p>\n

Our front entryway is really more like a front corridor – meaning it extends down a long hallway that spills out into our family room & kitchen. I like to restyle this narrow hallway table a bit differently each season. \u00a05 points extra credit if you can spy the black dog’s snout in the picture! \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n

I think this year October really spoke to me. I had recently pulled out some of my favorite old novels to read this fall, and Anne of Green Gables was one of them. I love this quote from the book by L.M. Montgomery, “I’m so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers.”<\/p>\n

It fit perfectly in the center of this vintage window that came out of a garage on a property up north that my grandfather owns. I bleach cleaned it up really well and let it dry in the sun. Then it became the perfect prop for this spot!<\/p>\n

I’ve had this grapevine wreath forever and love adding things to it each year to make it different. I found the big sprig of faux maple leaves at Shopko this year. Don’t you just love the color combo of orange and blue? It really works well for autumn decor!<\/p>\n
