We’ve made it to May…or should I say Maycember, as I’ve heard it lovingly referred to all over social media lately. You know, just as busy as December, but without the presents?
This month and all the stuff crammed into it is enough to drive anyone with school age children crazy. But I can see the summer vacation exit sign up ahead on the highway of life and I can’t wait to get there!
Back in March, when we had a week off for spring break vacation, my husband and I decided it would be a good time to give our master bedroom a long overdue refresh.
This year marks 10 years in our “little faith” home that we built back in 2009. And guess what?
Our master bedroom was the ONE room left in our entire house that had not been repainted or redone in some way, shape or form.
It was just a tad overdue for a new look.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, the power of paint never ceases to amaze me.
All it took was a new color on the walls to make this room completely transform.
First to go was the dated brown color that had been in here for a decade. It was a dark chocolate brown color that I had loved on the walls in our first home, so much that I carried it over to the new house when it was first built. I only got one quick snapshot of it before my hubby started painting over it with the new color.
We went with a much lighter greige color (grey-beige) called Castle Path by Behr.
It really makes the room feel light, airy and open.
We decided to bring our faux fireplace up here, as well as a chair that used to be in our living room. I stole a bookcase that had been in our upstairs hallway for years and created a reading nook next to the fireplace.
This has been a great spot where I can sit and do devotions, journal or read a book.
I also updated a few other items, like these seeded glass lamps for our nightstands.
I like to change out our bedding seasonally, but the price tag associated with brand name bedding is usually not in my budget.
A trick I have found is to look for it secondhand on Ebay.
I love Pottery Barn quilts and duvet covers, and there are tons of them being sold used and still in great condition online. I was able to find this set of PB floral duvet and shams for a fraction of what they would have been brand new.
The colors in this set perfectly compliment the style in our master bathroom that was made over a few years ago, and will tie this room over for the rest of the spring and summer.
There are still a lot of other neutrals in this room, like the new wall color, white curtains and bedspread.
I find if you stay with a pretty neutral base, you can very easily change bedding and accents around to bring in your pops of color.
I still have our custom LOVE artwork that I created 2 years ago, hanging on either side of our bed.
I’m really loving the simple, refreshed look this room was given, without breaking the bank in the process.
It’s been a dream falling asleep and waking up in this pretty space every day!
